A Tasty Tour Through Madrid: Exploring Spanish Flavors with Our Little Eaters
Today was one for the books—and the bellies! With five hungry kids and adventurous spirits, we joined Walk and Eat Spain for a food tour through Madrid’s vibrant neighborhoods of Malasaña and Chueca, and it turned into a full day of flavor, fun, and trying new things together.
We met our amazing guide, Oliver, and set off with high energy and hungry stomachs. The first stop? A Madrid must—churros with hot chocolate. Warm, crunchy, and sweet, this classic combo was a hit with every little eater and set the tone for the rest of the day.
Next came a bit of movement and curiosity with a scavenger hunt woven into the streets of Madrid. The kids loved learning fun facts and exploring the city beyond just eating.
Then it was time for one of our most opinionated stops—olive oil tasting. We tried three different types and voted for our favorites. It sparked fun conversations about taste, texture, and how something as simple as oil can taste so different!
A walk to the famous Mercado de San Miguel brought even more surprises:
🍒 Fresh cherries
🫒 Three types of olives
🐟 Boquerones en vinagre (anchovy on a potato chip!)—and yes, every single kid tried it! Some faces were hesitant, but there was pride all around for being brave and curious.
We ended with cheese tasting, some much-needed playtime at a local playground, and then… lunch magic.
The kids devoured tortilla de española, garlic shrimp, chicken skewers, juicy pork, and bread that disappeared faster than we could slice it. Of course UNO was involved ;)
By the end of the tour, the kids rated the day a 10/10—not just for the food, but for the experience of learning, tasting, and exploring together. We cannot recommend Walk and Eat Spain enough for families looking for a meaningful, hands-on way to explore Madrid’s culture and cuisine.
