✈️ Little Eaters at Logan: Making Mealtime Choices at the Boston Airport
After a long travel day in NYC (and an unexpected diner stop), we found ourselves with a rare luxury before our next flight—time. At Boston Logan International Airport, we had over an hour before boarding our flight to Ireland, which gave us a chance to slow down and actually enjoy a sit-down meal as a family.
We chose a seafood restaurant tucked into one of the terminals—not always the first choice for traveling with young kids, but we were pleasantly surprised by how well it went. This time, we let our children take the lead: they each got to choose their own meal and their sides, with just one rule—one of the sides had to be a healthy choice.
To our delight (and, let’s be honest, a bit of parental pride), both kids chose broccoli! One paired it with french fries (balance!), and the other went with applesauce. It was one of those small wins that felt really big: watching them make thoughtful choices, listening to their bodies, and showing they’re learning how to build a balanced plate—even in an airport.
There was a funny moment, too: one of our little eaters tried to order rice and french fries, which sparked a mini-convo about food variety and how both are heavier carbs. We kept it light and positive, focusing on how different food groups help our bodies in different ways—fuel, fiber, energy, and more.
🍽️ Travel Feeding Tip:
When you're eating on the go, especially in busy environments like airports, give kids a simple structure and a little autonomy. Offering choices within boundaries (like “pick a protein and a veggie” or “you can have one fun side and one growing food”) helps them feel empowered, while still keeping nutrition in the picture.
I’m learning that even small airport meals can become great learning moments—and sometimes, even better family memories.
